Location Description

Beli Iskar - Бели Искър

Beli Iskar is situated in the foothills of the Rila Mountains and straddles one of the tributaries of the Iskar River, hence it’s name, which translates literally as ’White River’. This charming village is surrounded by fantastic views in an almost perfect ‘scenery bowl’. At an altitude of 1200m the air is fresh and clean, with plenty of snow in the winter and a refreshing breeze in the summer.

The village is only 7km North West from the ski resort of Borovets and a road joins the two locations. The town of Samokov can be found only 5km distant.

Beli Iskar boasts 7 family run guesthouses, a bar, 2 shops and located in the village square is a tourist information office. The summer is a busy time for the 700 inhabitants; in June they host the Festival of Rila, which involves various competitions with many tasty and traditional classes. In August the village hosts a 3-day rock festival to bring things right up to date.
